Distance Learning (via telepresence)

Much of online learning is done with videos. Naturally it would be preferred to have a hands on experience but how do you do that remotely? A distance hands on experience? Impossible? Not for much longer.

Here is my list of the top 5 society changing innovations I am watching.

1. Augmented Reality
2. Smart Phones
3. Telepresence
4. Alternative Fusion power technologies
5. Robot cars

Some of those like Fusion power are a little more speculative but some like smart phones you can already see the effects. Each of these technologies have the potential to transform society.

Here is a video on telepresence. Watch it and then I’ll tell you some of the things I think it will make possible.

Telepresence disruptions:

1. Dangerous jobs can be done remotely. (soldiers will get this first)
2. You will be able to rent a telepresence robot to do distance vacations.
3. As the bodies get better than human bodies, new forms of recreation will be invented.
4. Medical care will be transformed because doctors can examine patients remotely.

I’m sure the most disruptive ones haven’t even been thought of yet!

Yes the technology is out there but it’s not outside the limits of physics. Remember, we might not recognize world changing inventions right away.
