Augmented Reality Without QR Codes

I’ve always looked at QR codes as training wheels for Augmented Reality. True AR will happen with any object, and with glasses or contact based displays. This video shows how we are a step closer to QR codeless AR.

The technology isn’t quite perfect yet as it still takes somebody to enter an image into the Layar system. Still, when ready I look at something like this as a perfect learning tool. Imagine different layers of data floating invisibly around us. By using a glasses based display we will be able to get information about anything we look at. The video I posted yesterday showed how that would work.

My current prediction is AR will hit big by the middle of this decade. We will see!
